I walked around an Adamas at a show in Guangzhou, then made the mistake of standing next to it for a photo. Bad call. The thing shrinks people. Squared body, glass almost dead vertical, a full-size spare bolted to a side-hinged tailgate the old-school way. Now the size. 5,050 mm long, 1,985 mm wide, 3,010 mm wheelbase — that drops it straight into the body-on-frame luxury corner where Defenders and G-Wagons hang out, and it doesn’t look the slightest bit out of place there. The 21-inch wheels run 275/45 R21 rubber, the chunky kind. Squared cladding, roof rails, no confusion about what it’s for. Crank the air suspension up and you get roughly 240 mm of ground clearance when the ground stops being polite. So it looks right spinning on a showroom turntable — and it’ll look right crawling a wadi. That pairing’s rare. Genuinely useful on a dealer floor, that.

Interior

Inside, the brief was obviously “mobile palace” and nobody held back. You get a 15.7-inch floating centre screen, a 12.3-inch cluster in front of the driver, and — if your buyers want it — an optional 15.7-inch 3K panel for the back seats. Nappa, heated and vented. The six-seat version carries captain’s chairs you’d normally have to board a plane to sit in, and the soft-close doors land with that quiet expensive thunk buyers trust for no good reason. There’s even a cooled fridge. 256-colour ambient, tri-zone climate, and — the bit that actually matters — grown adults fit the third row without folding in half. Now, the layout’s where you make your margin. Seven seats, 2+3+2. Or six, 2+2+2. Families grab one. Executive fleets grab the other. Two totally different sales stories, off the same chassis.

Powertrain and Chassis

Right, the clever bit. This is a true REEV — a range-extender — not a plug-in hybrid, and the difference isn’t marketing fluff. The 1.5-litre turbo engine never touches the wheels; all it does is make electricity. Meanwhile permanent-magnet motors front and rear shove 350 kW — that’s 469 hp — and 740 Nm out to all four corners. The 44.5 kWh CATL pack runs up to 215 km of CLTC electric range on its own, quietly. Then the 70-litre petrol tank stretches the total to about 1,405 km — and in markets where chargers are thin on the ground, that number just kills the range-anxiety conversation dead. Oh, and 0–100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. For a thing weighing close to 2,800 kg, that’s just silly. Chassis is all-aluminium, double wishbones at the front, H-arm at the back, adaptive air damping, torque vectoring in the mix. This isn’t a soft-roader wearing tough clothes. It’ll genuinely go.

FAQ

Is the ROX Adamas a hybrid or fully electric? Neither, strictly — it’s a REEV, a range-extender. The 1.5T petrol engine just makes electricity for the battery; the two motors do every bit of the actual driving. Get that wording right in your brochures, because “hybrid” will get you in trouble.

What is the driving range? Up to 215 km on electric alone, CLTC. Then the petrol range-extender kicks in and you’re looking at roughly 1,405 km total. I’ve had fleet guys stop worrying the moment I say that number.

How many seats does it have? Six, or seven. Six is 2+2+2 with captain’s chairs — lovely for execs. Seven is 2+3+2. Both give you three real rows, none of that “two adults and a child” nonsense in the back.

Can I import the ROX Adamas to my country? Depends on your homologation setup, plus however they classify EVs and range-extenders locally — and those two often sit in different boxes. Give me the market and I’ll tell you where you stand.
