The BYD Song Ultra EV is the Dynasty series’ first B-segment battery-electric SUV, and it shows BYD doing what it does best — packing a big cabin and a long range into a price band that makes European and Latin American buyers do a double take. Exterior
Quieter in stance than the photos suggest — that closed-off front fascia carries a brushed-metal Song character logo, and a full-width light strip runs the nose. The “dragon whisker” headlight signature is still there, thinner now, and the side gets the coupe-SUV roofline that drops from the B-pillar into a blacked-out C and D. Wheels are 18-inch as standard, 19s if you tick the box. At the back there’s the “Chinese knot” full-width taillight with a small turquoise running accent underneath — the bit I’d actually point out to a customer, because it reads modern against the conservative German stuff and costs nothing to look at. Flush door handles, panoramic roof, a sizeable spoiler. It stands 1,670 mm tall and 1,910 mm wide, so it parks like a normal mid-size SUV, not a tall wagon.
Interior
Calmer in here than the shell outside would have you expect. That 15.6-inch rotating screen floats off the dash and turns portrait or landscape at a tap, Snapdragon 8155 does the processing so nothing lags, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and — the part worth showing — physical climate dials survive on the console. Powertrain and Chassis
Battery and nothing else — the Song Ultra EV has no engine, no generator, nothing to fill up. Drive is single-motor rear-wheel, and here’s the split: the lower tune makes 240 kW, or 322 hp, while the long-range car pushes 270 kW, 362 hp, both with 305 Nm and a 210 km/h top end. The 270 kW version does 0-100 in about 6.8 seconds, which is quick and honestly more than enough for what this is. Range comes from BYD’s Blade Battery 2.0, LFP chemistry, in 69.1 kWh or 82.7 kWh sizes — call it 605-620 km CLTC on the smaller pack, 710 km on the big one, the segment leader at this money. CTB cell-to-body ties the pack into the structure, which stiffens the shell and drops the centre of gravity; underneath there are MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear, which shows up in how flat the car stays through a corner for something standing this tall. Flash charging on the 800V architecture takes 10 to 80 percent in roughly five minutes on a compatible DC unit.
