Exterior
Full-size SUVs live or die on presence. The Leapmotor D19 has plenty of it — so much that it changes your business plan before it changes your showroom. It arrives in April 2026 at 5252 mm long, 1995 mm wide and 1780 mm tall, on a 3110 mm wheelbase. American-size numbers. Read them as a warning label rather than a spec sheet, because this is not a car that slips into a small urban dealership, and it will not suit every market’s parking stock.
Check your infrastructure before you order a container. Not a throwaway line. I have watched importers in tight cities order a batch of large SUVs and then discover their dealers cannot display them properly. That is a five-figure mistake, and it never shows up in a brochure. Design is boxy and confident. A tall, near-vertical nose with a slim daytime light signature. A flat roofline running all the way back. Squared-off rear quarters.
Nothing about the Leapmotor D19 apologises for its size, and that flat roof is a deliberate choice rather than a styling accident. It protects headroom in the second and third rows, which is exactly where big SUVs usually fall down. If you sell to large families, this is the detail that closes the deal. Practical details are handled well. Wide-opening doors, roof rails, rear glass that stays upright instead of raked.
The bit I would flag: 1995 mm of width puts you right at the limit for older city streets and plenty of home garages. In markets where buyers squeeze into narrow parking every day, that width is a genuine objection. Give your sales staff an answer before the car lands, not after the first complaint. Parts of Algiers or central Nairobi, this is a parking question, not a styling question. Train for it.
Interior
This is the main event. Six or seven seats depending on the layout you order, over a 3110 mm wheelbase, and second-row space is generous in every version. The question is the third row. Here the D19 does better than most rivals, because the roofline stays high instead of sloping away. Adults can use that row for a reasonable journey rather than a short emergency hop. That single fact closes deals in markets where three-generation families travel together, and no amount of screen size does the same job.
With all seats up, luggage space is tight. Physics, not a design flaw. Fold the third row and the boot turns vast. Fold both and you have a van. So your trim mix should follow the family size of your market, not your own taste. Seven seats for the markets that need them. Six for the ones that want luggage. Materials reflect Leapmotor’s positioning. Soft surfaces on the upper dash and door tops, harder plastics below, and a solid, quiet feel at speed. Screen arrangement is modern: a large central unit plus a separate display for the driver.
Two honest reservations, and I would be doing you a disservice if I softened them. The software platform is Chinese-first, so navigation, voice control and connected services need localisation before launch. Budget weeks, not days. And a three-row, three-motor flagship is a heavy car. Efficiency will be lower than a compact electric SUV, so do not let anyone promise you otherwise. If your buyers track consumption per month, they will find out.
The Stellantis distribution relationship is the counterweight. It gives the Leapmotor D19 access to an established overseas sales and service network, and for a young brand that is a real advantage, especially on parts logistics. In a market where nobody knows the badge, that network is worth more than any specification line.
Powertrain and Chassis
Two families, and the choice should follow your market, not your personal taste. The Leapmotor D19 comes as a REEV or as a BEV. Start with the one most importers should think hardest about.
The REEV pairs a 1.5T engine rated at 129 PS, acting purely as a generator, with two electric motors producing a combined 300 kW. Electric-only range is quoted at 400 km or 500 km. On paper that is a long electric range for a range-extended vehicle, and it changes the sales conversation. A family could run almost entirely on electricity for daily use while keeping a combustion fallback for the long trip. Where charging is unreliable, that combination is easier to sell than a pure battery car.
The BEV line goes further. Two motors deliver 410 kW in the all-wheel-drive version. A three-motor flagship configuration makes 540 kW. 0–100 km/h runs from 3.94 seconds to 4.9 seconds depending on version. Remarkable for something this size. Frankly, more than the chassis needs, and your customers will never use it in traffic. Range is homologated at CLTC 620, 680 or 720 km depending on battery pack. Careful with those figures in your marketing. CLTC is a Chinese cycle, more optimistic than WLTP, and WLTP is itself more optimistic than a loaded seven-seat SUV on a wet motorway with the climate running full.
Discount accordingly, and your dealers will not spend the first quarter managing disappointed customers. That discipline is worth real money in a launch year.
The chassis uses a sophisticated independent front and rear layout with adaptive damping on higher trims, tuned towards comfort, because that is what this class demands. With three motors, though, weight and tyre consumption deserve a hard look. Big, fast and heavy eats rubber, and your fleet customers will see that on the tyre invoice long before anyone reads a spec sheet. Worth putting a number on before you quote them a running cost.
FAQ
What is the difference between the REEV and BEV versions of the Leapmotor D19? The REEV uses a 1.5T engine purely as a generator feeding two motors, with 400 km or 500 km of electric range. The BEV has no engine and relies on a larger battery, quoted from 620 km to 720 km CLTC. Both share the body and the 3110 mm wheelbase. For most markets where charging is thin, the REEV is the easier conversation.
Is the third row usable for adults? Yes, more so than most rivals, because the roof stays flat instead of sloping. Legroom is the tighter dimension, not headroom. Comfortable for medium-length journeys, and fine for children. Demo it with a real adult before you print anything.
What does the Stellantis channel mean for an importer? It means access to an existing overseas distribution and service structure rather than building one from scratch. For a newer brand, that cuts risk on parts logistics and workshop training. Commercial terms still need confirming case by case.
How do we import the Leapmotor D19 into our country? We manage production allocation, export documentation and the certificates your customs authority requests. You are responsible for local homologation, typically through an approved test house, plus any regional safety, emissions or charging standards. Send your market and expected volumes and we will set out the full sequence. As an importer of a three-row flagship, start that process before you sign your first dealer, because the approval calendar sets your launch date, not the ship.
How do you supply us, and how do we start? Send a brief with country, annual volume, seating layout preference and powertrain mix. We reply with a configured offer and a production window. Most partners begin with a pilot batch to validate homologation and dealer demand before scaling into regular shipments. We supply the Leapmotor D19 in six and seven-seat layouts and in both drivetrains, so you can test the market with a narrow order first.
