Exterior Design
The Tank 300L Hi4-Z retains the classic “square-and-round in perfect balance” boxy silhouette, with its iconic round headlights, external spare tire, and square rear end all preserved, though the vehicle’s proportions have undergone a systematic adjustment. The wheelbase has been increased by 260 mm to 3,010 mm, the front overhang has been reduced to 774 mm, and the front and rear track widths have been widened by 53 mm and 67 mm, respectively. The wheelbase-to-length ratio now stands at 0.616, approaching the golden ratio, and the vehicle’s side profile appears significantly more fluid than that of the previous generation. With the wheel centers raised by 1 inch, the minimum ground clearance reaches 235 mm. Combined with flared wheel arches, the vehicle projects a more imposing, “large-car” presence than the previous model.
In terms of details, the grille has been upgraded with a blacked-out “TANK” logo, and the front bumper features a three-section design for the first time; the manufacturer states that this change balances future maintenance costs with ease of modification. The headlight clusters now feature a three-horizontal-bar lighting configuration, while the centrally positioned turn signal retains the highly recognizable “broken circle” design that extends to the sides of the front end. The rear now features a new integrated small spoiler, and the high-mounted brake light has been elongated horizontally.
The exterior colors are another highlight of this facelift. The all-new Tank 300 offers three exclusive color schemes—Shining Yellow, Passion Red, and Serene Blue—based on the three primary colors, custom-developed by Great Wall in collaboration with PPG. The interior is available in three color combinations: all-black, black-red, and black-orange, featuring a chrome-plated column-mounted gearshift, with door panels and seats upholstered in Nappa leather.
Powertrain
The Tank 300L Hi4-Z has a CLTC all-electric range of 251 km and a WLTC fuel consumption of 8.35 L/100 km when running on gasoline. For a body-on-frame off-road vehicle with a substantial curb weight, the latter figure is particularly crucial. Daily urban commuting can rely entirely on electric power, while the engine’s short direct-drive path and low energy loss make it ideal for long-distance road trips. The manufacturer claims that a 30%–80% fast charge can be completed in 16 minutes at normal temperatures, placing its charging power among the top tier of plug-in hybrid vehicles.
The combined power of the three powertrains is 560 kW, with torque of 1,195 N·m; a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 4.3 seconds is uncommon in the off-road vehicle segment. More indicative than the specs is its performance in battery-depleted mode: official data shows that 0–100 km/h acceleration can still be achieved in the 5-second range, with power degradation of only about 16%—far lower than the 40% degradation typically seen in single-speed series-parallel architectures.
