The Buick GL8’s front-end design introduces innovations to the brand’s signature styling language, offering consumers a choice of two front-end styles. The Business Edition retains the classic winged grille, featuring horizontal slats paired with a dot-matrix pattern and accented by chrome trim that outlines the contours. This design preserves a mature and dignified presence while enhancing sophistication through refined details, exuding a sense of grandeur during business receptions. The Sport Edition, on the other hand, features a parametric “Mountain and Sea” grille inspired by nature. Its three-dimensional, flowing surfaces create a layered effect reminiscent of overlapping mountain ranges. Paired with sharp LED headlight clusters, it delivers maximum visual impact, satisfying younger users’ desire for individuality. LED lighting is standard across the entire lineup, featuring a dual-lens design for high and low beams. Combined with continuous daytime running lights, the headlights offer exceptional visibility when illuminated.
Turning to the side profile, the vehicle’s dimensions remain in line with the standards for mid-to-large MPVs, measuring 5,219 mm in length, 1,878 mm in width, and 1,807 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,088 mm—figures that lay the foundation for the vehicle’s spacious interior. The side profile retains the classic, boxy silhouette typical of MPVs. The flat roofline and character line maximize vertical headroom, ensuring ample headroom even for a 180-cm passenger seated in the third row. The hidden door tracks are a standout feature, giving the side profile a clean, sleek appearance and eliminating the obtrusive look of traditional MPV tracks. The exterior mirrors feature integrated turn signals and support electric adjustment, folding, and heating functions. They can quickly clear fog from the mirror surface in rainy weather, enhancing visibility and safety during lane changes and reverse parking.
The rear design continues the overall minimalist style, with a horizontal chrome trim strip spanning the taillights on both sides, visually widening the rear and making it appear more substantial. The crystal-clear “Cloud Step” LED full-width taillights blend seamlessly with the body contours, producing a unique lighting effect when illuminated and offering exceptional nighttime visibility. It’s worth noting that the chrome trim at the base of the high-mounted brake light echoes the side trim panels, wrapping around the entire vehicle to create a cohesive look and adding a touch of elegance. The power tailgate release button is positioned directly above the license plate frame—a prominent location that makes it easy for seniors and children to operate.
Interior Design
The Buick GL8 features a wraparound, light-luxury cabin design. The center console layout is well-organized, with a dual 12.3-inch full-width connected screen positioned centrally. It comes equipped with the eConnect smart system, supporting 5G connectivity, four-zone voice interaction, and CarPlay/HiCar smartphone integration, delivering smooth performance and intelligence that exceeds its class. The three-spoke multifunction steering wheel is wrapped in genuine leather and integrates smart controls; the electronic gear selector saves space and offers convenient operation. The interior space is exceptional: a 2+2+3 seven-seat layout, an ultra-long wheelbase of 3,088 mm, and a theater-style seating arrangement ensure unobstructed views from every row. Passengers in the second row who are 1.8 meters tall have legroom exceeding two fists, and the center aisle is nearly 180 mm wide, facilitating easy access to the third row.
Powertrain
The Buick GL8 is available in two versions—a 2.0T gasoline model and a 1.5T plug-in hybrid (PHEV)—to meet all driving scenarios. The gasoline version is powered by the eighth-generation Ecotec 2.0T variable-cylinder engine, delivering a maximum power output of 174 kW (237 horsepower) and peak torque of 350 N·m, paired with a 9-speed Hydra-Matic transmission. The PHEV version is equipped with the Zhenlong Plug-in Hybrid Pro system, featuring a dedicated 1.5T hybrid engine and a high-efficiency electric motor, delivering a combined power output of 292 kW and combined torque of 580 N·m, with a CLTC-rated all-electric range of 202 km and a combined range of 1,450 km.
