Exterior Design
The Peugeot 408 largely retains the design of the previous model in terms of exterior aesthetics. The front fascia features a large-sized grille with a new black logo and a dot-matrix chrome insert. The grille flows seamlessly into the LED headlights on either side, complemented by the classic downward-extending LED light strip and a trapezoidal lower air intake, resulting in a well-executed front-end design.
The taillights feature the currently popular full-width design. Multiple character lines emerge from the rear, extending in a low-front, high-rear profile down to the base of the A-pillars. Combined with the car’s overall low-front, high-rear stance and the roof’s smooth contours, this creates a strong sense of sportiness.
The Peugeot 408 measures 4,750 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width, and 1,488 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,730 mm—dimensions identical to the previous model. After testing it firsthand, I found the interior space to be average. As a 1.8-meter-tall, 90-kg driver, I had about a fist’s worth of space between my knees and the front seats when sitting in the back, and there’s also a noticeable hump in the center of the rear floor. However, the new model is equipped with rear air conditioning vents and features dual-zone climate control.
Interior Design
The Peugeot 408’s cabin largely carries over the design of the previous model. The classic dual-D-shaped steering wheel, floating center console screen, metal-finish physical buttons, and prominently raised instrument panel all underscore its French automotive heritage. In addition, the 2025 model year lineup consists of two variants. The “Latour” edition, as the higher-trim model, adds features such as a 360-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, a single sunroof, power-adjustable front passenger seat, and heated side mirrors compared to the base model.
Powertrain
The Peugeot 408 is powered by a 1.5T turbocharged engine (model YG01), delivering a maximum power output of 173 horsepower and peak torque of 255 Newton-meters. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual mode. Performance is solid and adequate for daily family use, and—most importantly—reliability is excellent. In terms of the chassis, the new model features a MacPherson strut independent front suspension paired with a longitudinal-arm torsion beam non-independent rear suspension.
