Let me tell you what a supercar actually is, commercially. It is not a car. It is a piece of marketing that happens to have wheels, and it earns its keep by making everything else in your showroom look serious. That is the lens for this one.
The Hyper SSR is a pure-electric supercar from Hyptec, which is the performance brand inside GAC’s operation — not the Aion main line, and I want that clear from the first paragraph because half the enquiries I see have the brand wrong. It arrives with numbers that sound invented. They are not. They are just narrow.
Exterior
You cannot look at this car and stay neutral about it, which is exactly what the factory was aiming for. It is 1,988 mm wide and stands only 1,230 mm tall — a ratio that reads as aggressive from any angle and hostile from a kerb. Low, flat, and visibly engineered around airflow rather than around access. Getting in is an event. Getting out, in a tight space, is a small athletic performance.
That height is worth dwelling on, because it is the specification that decides where you can sell this car. A 1,230 mm roof line means speed humps, steep driveways, ferry ramps and the entry to any number of underground car parks become genuine considerations. Some of your customers own exactly the kind of house that has a problematic driveway. Ask them about it before you take a deposit, because it is a miserable conversation to have afterwards.
I have seen dealers order the Hyper SSR and then discover the car will not clear their own workshop ramp. Check yours. It sounds trivial until it is your service bay that cannot admit the vehicle you just sold. Twenty-one-inch wheels fill the arches and set the stance, and at this level they are not really optional — a smaller rim would undercut the entire visual argument. The cost is that they are expensive, easily kerbed, and in short supply unless your parts channel is properly established. Order spares with the first shipment. I would not be doing you a service if I pretended this was a normal passenger car with a normal parts list.
Length is modest at 4,556 mm on a 2,650 mm wheelbase, which keeps the shape compact and almost mid-engined in feel. It is a two-seat statement, not a grand tourer with luggage. Whatever the badge on your business card says, you are importing a showpiece. Aerodynamic surfaces and vents are real rather than decorative, and I would tell your prep team to treat every panel of the Hyper SSR as delicate. This is the kind of bodywork where a careless detailer with a bad cloth becomes a four-figure repair.
Interior
Everything in here is angled towards one person. That is a design decision, not a flaw, but it does mean the passenger is scenery, and you should describe it that way to buyers rather than pretending it is a shared experience.
The cabin is low, snug, and materially serious. The floor sits high because the battery sits underneath, so the seating position is a reclined compromise between sitting in a cockpit and lying in a pod. Some buyers love that instantly. Others need twenty minutes and a second visit. This is not a car that closes on a walk-past; it closes after a static sit-down with a salesperson who knows what they are talking about. If you are going to stock the Hyper SSR, stock it with someone who can explain it.
Where I would push the factory is on software and localisation, and I would push hard. Supercar buyers at this price point are used to flawless interfaces, and a flagship that ships with region-locked navigation, incomplete language support or an app store your customers cannot use is a flagship that generates complaints disproportionate to the actual fault. Get the localisation scope in writing. Make someone at Hyptec accountable for it by name if you can. Storage, comfort and practicality are, frankly, beside the point. Be honest with your sales team: nobody is buying this for the cupholders. They are buying an object. Sell the object, support it properly, and stop apologising for what it is not.
Powertrain and Chassis
Three motors. All-wheel drive. 900 kW, which the factory quotes as 1,224 PS, and 1,230 Nm. A two-speed transmission, and a 900-volt silicon carbide electrical architecture underneath the whole thing. I have written enough of these that the numbers no longer move me, but this one still does, because of the two-second figure. Zero to 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds is not a marketing exaggeration, it is a physics problem that has been solved with motor count and current. And I will be blunt: almost none of your customers will ever use it. Almost none of them should. What they will do is repeat the number to friends, and that repetition is the product.
The battery is 74.69 kWh, and that is deliberately not enormous. A supercar prioritises discharge rate and weight over capacity, so a CLTC range of 506 km is the correct kind of figure for this class — it is a real road trip in theory, a very short and very entertaining one in practice. Treat it as such and you will never overpromise. Efficient track driving, or sustained hard use, will consume it far faster than the badge suggests, and CLTC remains kinder than real conditions in any case.
The 900-volt architecture with silicon carbide power electronics is the technically interesting part, because it is the reason a car this fast can also charge quickly enough to be usable. Two-speed gearing is unusual in an electric car and exists to keep the top end honest while delivering the brutal launch. It is a legitimate engineering choice, and it puts this car in a much smaller club than its price suggests.
Support is where a supercar import lives or dies, though. This is a low-volume, high-strung, triple-motor machine with high-voltage systems no ordinary technician can approach. Your service plan has to be agreed before the first unit lands, not improvised afterwards. Factory training, high-voltage certification, battery lift equipment, battery storage and disposal arrangements — all of it, in writing. Hyptec does not sell through mass-market channels, and if you treat this like importing a family sedan you will find out why very expensively.
FAQ
Is this an Aion? No, and this trips up a startling number of people. It sits under Hyptec, the performance marque, rather than the Aion main brand. Different positioning, different dealer expectations, different conversation. Get the naming right in your own paperwork before you correct anyone else’s.
Why only two seats, and only 506 km of range? Because it is a supercar, and supercars have always been like this. The engineering went into discharge rate, cooling and launch, and those priorities cost you seats and outright range. If a buyer needs four seats and a long range, this is the wrong car and no specification argument will fix that.
What is the honest risk with a car this fast? That it becomes a liability, in insurance and in reputation. A 1.9-second car in the hands of someone with more money than track experience is a genuine danger, and insurers in your market will price it accordingly — some may decline outright. Check insurability in your territory before you order, and think hard about what driver briefing you owe your customers.
What must an importer secure before committing to volume? Three things, and I would not move without all three. A confirmed two-seat configuration and technical file that matches your market’s homologation route; a factory-trained high-voltage service programme with certified equipment; and a spare-parts commitment for body panels and wheels. An importer without those is holding an object they cannot legally register, service or repair.
How does Hyptec supply work for a first-time sports-car dealer? Direct volume is unlikely to be available, so expect to work through a distributor or a combined order with other models. That is not a weakness — it is how this tier export works. Ask what supply framework applies to you, get the allocation terms in writing, and accept that your first shipment will be small, photographed a great deal, and used far more for the showroom than for the road.
