The smart brand global joint venture, now jointly owned by Mercedes-Benz and Geely Automobile Group, is committed to building smart into the world’s leading premium electric smart car brand. The global headquarters is located in Ningbo, China, with marketing centers in China and Germany, and a production base in Xi’an, China.
Since its birth, smart has always led the innovative practice of urban mobility, embraced the development of electrification and intelligentization of the automotive industry, and was the first automotive brand in the industry to fully transform into a purely electric vehicle.
Currently, the mainstream products under the Smart brand include Smart #1, Smart #3 and Smart #5.

SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture)
Smart builds its high-performance pure-electric platform based on Geely’s SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture), a highly modular design that supports the flexible adaptation of wheelbase, drive form and battery capacity, while taking into account lightweight and high rigidity. For example, the wheelbase of the smart Elf#1 is 2750mm, achieving space utilization comparable to that of a mid-sized car in a compact body (4290mm), while optimizing handling stability with an all-aluminum suspension and a low-center-of-gravity design (with an axle-to-load ratio of 50:50.) The SEA architecture also supports OTA upgrades across the entire region, covering more than 75% of the electronic control units of the electric drive, smart drive, and the cockpit, to continually improve vehicle performance.
Intelligent Driver Assistance System (ADAS)
Smart is equipped with an L2+ level intelligent driver assistance system, which integrates high-precision maps, 12 ultrasonic radars, 5 millimeter-wave radars and multi-camera perception networks to support full-speed domain adaptive cruise control, automatic lane change, lane keeping and traffic light recognition. Its parking assistance system through multi-sensor fusion algorithms, to achieve vertical / side parking success rate of more than 99%, parking time reduced to less than 40 seconds. In the future, it plans to support high-speed navigation assistance (NOP) through OTA upgrades, covering the national road network of 726 cities.
“Sensibility - Spirituality” Design Philosophy and Intelligent Interaction
The “Sensual-Spiritual” design language led by the Mercedes-Benz global design team is centered on “love, purity, and surprise”, and integrates luxury aesthetics with a sense of technology. For example, the smart Genie #1 features a circular LED light strip, hidden door handles and frameless door design, which, together with the 12.8-inch floating center control screen and Beats audio system, creates a cabin with a sense of art and futuristic feel. Its intelligent interaction system supports voice assistant (wake-up response of 0.3 seconds), gesture control and multi-screen linkage, and combined with the “smart universe” UI interface, users can realize scenario-based interaction through 3D virtual assistants.
Global Energy Ecology and Optical Storage and Charging Technology
Smart builds an integrated “light storage, charging and transportation” energy replenishment ecology, introduces 90-second high-speed power exchange technology, is compatible with 500V-1000V charging piles, and supports the ultra-fast charging experience of “charging in 8 minutes with a range of 400 kilometers” (peak power of 490kW). The battery pack is made of Ningde Times triple-charged batteries. Its battery pack adopts Ningde Times lithium ternary cells, with a CLTC range of up to 666 miles, and realizes all-weather battery cell health monitoring through the BMS 2.0 system. In addition, smart cooperates with Sinopec to deploy PV super charging station, which combines with V2G technology to realize two-way interaction with the power grid, so that users can store energy in the low valley of power consumption and sell power back in the peak period to create revenue.
User Co-creation and Smart Ecological Integration
Through the D2C direct sales model and smartidea ecology, smart builds a co-creation platform with in-depth user participation. For example, users can customize the ring body intelligent light language effects through the super APP, or participate in co-designing limited peripheral products. Its cockpit integrates Skyworth home appliance ecology, supports functions such as car-home interconnection and smartwatch car control, and is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip to realize multi-task parallel processing and seamless digital experience.
