The Dongfeng Nammi 06 launched in China in the spring of 2025 and didn’t stay there long — exports kicked off within a year, and you can now find it wearing three different badges depending on which shore it washed up on. We’ll come back to that name game in the FAQ, but the car underneath is one thing wherever it’s sold: a small, square-ish electric crossover built to be cheap to run and easy to live with. Think city SUV, not trail rig.

Exterior

Stubby and upright, with just enough overhang to keep the bumpers out of the dirt. The face is closed off — no grille, because there’s nothing to cool — and the T-shaped LED daytime runners link across the nose with a thin light bar that reads as a single stroke at night. Round the sides you get flush door handles, roof rails, and those wide black arches that make a 4.3-metre car look tougher than it is. The bit I’d actually point out to a customer is the tailgate: it’s a split “heaven-and-earth” door, the top lifts like normal and the lower half drops down flat, and that bottom panel will take 150 kg sitting on it — tailgate as a picnic table, basically, which lands better than you’d expect when you’re showing one in a car park.

Interior

Calmer in here than the boxy shell suggests. A 12.8-inch screen stands proud of the dash with an 8.8-inch cluster tucked behind the wheel, the Snapdragon 8155 does the processing so nothing lags, and wireless CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard on the export cars we’ve seen. There’s a column shifter, a 50 W wireless pad up front, six speakers, and a fixed panoramic roof on the higher trims — the kind of glass buyers in this class now expect rather than forgive. Space is the quiet win: 500 litres behind the rear seats, folding flat to just over a thousand, and 35 little cubbies dotted around the cabin for the stuff that otherwise rolls under the seats. Worth knowing the second-row backs fold 60/40, so you can carry a bike and a passenger without a fight.

Powertrain and Chassis

Battery and nothing else — the Dongfeng Nammi 06 is a BEV, one motor, no engine, nothing to fill up.

Every version runs a single front motor rated 135 kW, or 181 hp, plus 290 Nm, driving the front wheels through a fixed reduction gear. Two LFP packs sit underneath, both from Sunwoda: a 44.94 kWh unit good for 401 km on CLTC, or a 51.87 kWh one that stretches to 471. Call the CLTC figures optimistic — WLTP, the number most export markets quote, lands closer to 300–350 km, which is honest everyday range and fine for what this car is.

Charging is where it punches above the price. The bigger pack takes DC at up to around 154 kW and goes 30 to 80% in about 18 minutes, so a coffee stop genuinely covers you; AC sits at 6.6 kW and there’s 3.3 kW of vehicle-to-load for the campers. Top speed is pegged at 150 km/h and it’ll do 0–50 km/h in roughly 3.6 seconds, which is the figure that actually matters in town.

Underneath there’s a MacPherson strut up front and a torsion beam behind — simple, and it leaves more room for the boot — with ventilated discs at the front and solid at the rear. Level 2 assistance handles the usual AEB, adaptive cruise and lane keeping, and the higher trims add highway NOA and a 360 camera with a see-through view. Six airbags, high-strength cage, no drama.

FAQ

How far does it go, and how long does charging take? CLTC gives 401 km on the small pack and 471 on the big one, but WLTP — the figure most export markets print — pulls those down to somewhere near 300–350 km, and that’s the number to quote. Charging runs 30 to 80% in about 18 minutes on DC, 6.6 kW on AC, and 3.3 kW the other way for appliances.

Is it big enough inside, and what’s with that tailgate? At 4,306 mm long on a 2,715 mm wheelbase it’s a true compact crossover, five seats, 500 litres of boot that opens with that split door we mentioned — the lower half is rated 150 kg. Fold the rear 60/40 and you’re at just over 1,000 litres. For a car this size, the cabin’s the surprise, not the boot.

Why is it called Nammi 06 in China but Dongfeng Vigo — or Evolute i-JOY — abroad? Same car, different lettering. At home it’s the Nammi 06 under Dongfeng’s Nammi EV brand; for export it’s mostly badged Dongfeng Vigo (Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa and others), and in Russia it lands as the Evolute i-JOY. Body, battery, motor and part numbers carry over untouched — only the badge and the local spec sheet change, so a customer comparing markets is really comparing trim, not the car.

Can the Dongfeng Nammi 06 be imported to my country? Where a market has no import certification requirement, it goes straight in — and the car was engineered from the start in both left- and right-hand drive, so that helps. Some regions do ask for type approval and the EU is the one that comes up most, so in those cases we have to confirm first whether this model can be supplied with the certification your country wants.
