CHINA FAW GROUP CO., LTD. (short for FAW), formerly China First Automobile Works, can trace its roots back to Jul 15, 1953, when its first assembly plant started to be constructed. FAW is one of China’s oldest and largest automotive manufacturers, with registered capital of RMB 35.4 billion yuan and total assets of RMB 457.83 billion yuan.
FAW is headquartered in China’s northern city of Changchun, Jilin province, and manufacturing plants are located in northeastern China’s Jilin, Liaoning and Heilongjiang provinces, eastern China’s Shandong province and Tianjin municipality, southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and Hainan province, and southwestern China’s Sichuan province and Yunnan province. Hydrogen Fuel Cell and Low Temperature Performance Technology
China FAW led the development of the world’s first group standard of “Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Low Temperature Environmental Performance Test Methods” (T/CSAE 418-2025), and jointly with 18 units filled the industry gap of low temperature testing for fuel cell vehicles . This technology solves the problem of cold start of hydrogen fuel cell in -30℃ extreme cold environment, and the system power reaches 100kW (can be expanded to 300kW), and is applied to Jiefang’s new energy heavy-duty trucks, which promotes the reliable operation of hydrogen commercial vehicles in low-temperature areas, and assists in the landing of the “double-carbon” strategy.
Jiefang Leader - Intelligent Driving Commercial Vehicle Technology
Through the joint venture company “Zhitou Technology”, FAW Jiefang has launched the world’s first mass-produced L2-level intelligent driving commercial vehicle, which integrates multi-sensor fusion and AI decision-making system, realizing centimeter-level positioning accuracy (≤5cm) and precise vehicle control (≤10cm) in port scenarios. It plans to land L4-level self-driving heavy trucks within five years to promote the intelligent upgrading of logistics and transportation, and has already received 1,000 orders to empower global intelligent transportation solutions.
Hybrid Thermal Management System
FAW’s independently developed hybrid thermal management system patent (CN222698307U) realizes the collaborative management of engine and battery heat by integrating the EGR heat exchanger, PTC heater and intelligent solenoid valve. The system supports efficient operation in the full temperature range of -40°C to 50°C, reduces energy consumption by more than 15%, reduces the number of parts by 30%, significantly optimizes cost and system complexity, and is applied to hybrid models such as Red Flag H5 PHEV.
1785“ Territorial Technology Strategy Architecture
With eight major directions such as ”electrification and intelligent network connectivity” as the core, FAW builds a phased technology route: R.Flag 1.0 (2023) to realize SOA architecture + CTP battery; R.Flag 2.0 (2026) to lay out CTC battery + full-line control. Layout of CTC battery + full line control chassis; R.Flag 3.0 (2030) to conquer all-solid-state battery + AI vehicle cloud integration architecture. The strategy covers 21 key technologies such as three electric systems and intelligent control, supporting the technology iteration of brands such as Red Flag and Jiefang.
Lightweight and Green Manufacturing Technology
Relying on the Sino-German Joint R&D Center, FAW applies carbon fiber composite materials, high-strength aluminum alloys and other materials to reduce the weight of the entire vehicle by 15% to 20%, and Red Flag’s E-HS9 adopts a steel-aluminum hybrid body, with torsional stiffness reaching 60,000N-m/deg. At the same time, the company is building “waste-free factories” and near-zero-carbon production bases (such as the Red Flag Prosperity Factory), which will reduce carbon by more than 300,000 tons in 2024 through photovoltaic power generation (generating 290 million kWh annually) and process optimization.
