Chery has dug the QQ name out of the archive and turned it into something the original never was — a proper battery-electric hatchback. The QQ3 EV first showed itself at the Chengdu Auto Show in August 2025, opened presales in March 2026, and it’s the kind of car that makes more sense the longer you stand next to it. Small on the outside, genuinely roomy inside, and built on a dedicated EV platform rather than being a petrol car with the engine yanked out.
Chery dug the QQ name out of the archive and turned it into something the original never was — a proper battery-electric hatchback, not the tiny city car of twenty years ago. It first showed itself at Chengdu in August 2025, opened presales in March 2026, and it’s the kind of car that makes more sense the longer you stand next to it. Five doors, five seats, a 2,700 mm wheelbase that pushes it near A-class territory, a rear motor doing the driving — small outside, roomy in, and built on a dedicated EV platform rather than a petrol shell with the engine yanked out.
Exterior
The shape’s round and soft but not childish, the grille blanked off because there’s nothing to cool behind it, and the Q-shaped LEDs sit either side like a face that’s actually smiling — which is the sort of detail a showroom customer notices before they read a word of the spec. A full-width strip runs underneath, arches in black, handles that tuck in halfway so the side stays clean. Where it gets fun is the colour: six at launch — Moon Silver, Feather White, Cloud Pink Beige, Ethereal Purple, Flame Red, Peach Blossom Pink — and a 36-colour DIY roof on top that younger buyers will actually talk about. Size-wise it’s 4,195 mm nose to tail on 1,811 mm of width, 1,569 mm tall most trims and 1,573 on the taller ones, wheels near the corners so the cabin stays roomy despite the compact body. Round the back the lights echo the front, a spoiler sits up top, and there’s a 70-litre powered frunk up front — the bit worth mentioning to anyone loading kids or shopping, because you don’t normally get that at this size.
Interior
Calmer and more grown-up in here than the round shell outside would have you expect. That 15.6-inch 2.5K screen floats above the dash, Snapdragon 8155 behind it so nothing lags, CarPlay and HiCar and CarLink all work — and the bit I’d actually point out to a customer is that Chery left real buttons and a dial on the console for the daily stuff. Try changing climate on a touchscreen at 60 mph and you’ll see why that counts. Two cabin moods, Premium Black or Jungle Green, both a notch above what you’d call basic in the trim; the front seats get ten-layer cushioning with heat and vent, the wheel heats too, 256-colour ambient, even a colour-temp mirror for the passenger side, and four modular ports on the console for clipping on whatever a buyer decides.
Space is the quiet selling point, frankly. That 2,700 mm wheelbase with the wheels shoved to the corners puts rear legroom closer to a car a class up, the boot does 375 litres and opens to 1,450 with the seats down, and there are 38 storage nooks scattered through the cabin — boot, frunk, door bins, drawers under the seats, the kind of practicality that reads better in person than on paper.
Powertrain and Chassis
Battery and nothing else — the Chery QQ3 EV has no engine, no generator, nothing to fill up.
Two ways to take it, both battery and nothing else — no engine, no generator, nothing to fill up. The smaller pack is a 29.48 kWh LFP unit good for 310 km on CLTC, paired with a rear motor rated 58 kW, or 79 PS, plus 90 Nm; that’s the city version, and it’s honestly fine for what this is. Step up to the 41.28 kWh LFP pack and CLTC climbs to 420 km, the motor grows to 90 kW (123 PS) and 115 Nm, and top speed edges from 125 to 135 km/h — both drive the back wheels, both single-motor, both quick enough to 100 km/h for town use without ever feeling rushed. If a customer wants a generator onboard, this isn’t the car.
Charging is where it punches above its class: DC takes the pack from 30 to 80% in about 16.5 minutes — park, grab a coffee, come back with most of a range — and AC runs at 6.6 kW, with 3.3 to 6.6 kW of vehicle-to-load so a buyer can run a kettle or a laptop off it on a campsite. The pack’s liquid-cooled, IP68, and Chery claims zero thermal spread.
Underneath there’s a MacPherson strut up front and a multi-link rear, unusual at this size and it shows in how flat the car sits through a bend for something this tall. Turning circle’s a tight 5.2 m, so it threads streets the way a small car should. Six airbags, a high-strength cage, and the Falcon 500 system runs the AEB, adaptive cruise, lane centring, blind-spot and the rest — plus parking that works in over a hundred scenarios, the feature a nervous parker actually buys.
One thing to keep straight: this is the latest QQ3, not the old petrol QQ3 everyone remembers from the 2000s, and overseas it’s sold under the Chery Q name. Same car, same platform, same battery and screen — only the badge and a few market tweaks change, which we cover in the FAQ.
FAQ
Is the Chery QQ3 EV a pure electric car or a range extender? Pure electric — a BEV, so one LFP battery, a motor on the rear axle, nothing burning fuel anywhere. No engine, no range extender, no plug-in hybrid version. If a customer wants something with a generator onboard, this isn’t it; the QQ3 EV is battery and nothing else.
How far does it go, and how long does charging take? CLTC gives 310 km on the smaller 29.48 kWh pack and 420 km on the larger 41.28 kWh one, but real-world figures abroad will sit lower than that, so quote CLTC honestly and let the buyer adjust. Charging is the strong point: 30 to 80% on DC in about 16.5 minutes, 6.6 kW on AC, and 3.3 to 6.6 kW of vehicle-to-load for outside use.
Why is it called Chery Q in some markets instead of QQ3 EV? Same car, different lettering on the tailgate. In China it’s the Chery QQ3 EV; for export it’s badged Chery Q, mostly so the name reads cleaner and avoids clashes abroad. Body, platform, battery, screen and part numbers all carry over untouched — only the badge and local market setup change, and right-hand-drive is added where a market needs it.
Can the Chery QQ3 EV be imported to my country? Where a market has no import certification rule, it goes straight in. Some regions do ask for type approval and the EU is the one that comes up most, so in those cases we have to confirm first whether the model can be supplied with the certification your country wants. Send the destination over and we’ll check it properly.
How do we supply the QQ3 EV, and how do we start? We’re a China-based auto export company, so we source the QQ3 EV from the manufacturer and handle everything on the export side — paperwork, booking, sea freight, delivery into your port. Most people we deal with are overseas dealers and importers putting together a steady line out of China, though we also help individual buyers running their own import. Send over your market, drive side and rough volume, and we’ll come back with availability, shipping options and the document list your destination actually needs.
