Exterior Design
The Mercedes Benz GLA is a compact SUV built on Mercedes-Benz’s MFA front-wheel-drive platform, and its exterior design carries forward the brand’s sporty and youthful aesthetic. The first-generation model was introduced in 2013, and the second-generation model (codenamed H247) was unveiled in 2019, featuring Mercedes-Benz’s latest family design language. The model lineup offers two exterior packages: the standard version and the sport version (AMG Line). The 2025 model features revisions to the front fascia, with the front grille adopting a “starry sky” design similar to that of the Mercedes-Benz GLC. The body design leans toward a sportier, more compact profile, with a drag coefficient of 0.28.
In terms of dimensions, the second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLA measures 4,417/1,834/1,610 mm in length, width, and height, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,729 mm. Compared to the first-generation model, the body is taller and the wheelbase is longer. Some 2025 models reach a height of 1,620 mm.
Interior Design
The Mercedes Benz GLA adopts the brand’s classic dual-screen design. Early second-generation models were equipped with a 7-inch screen, while later models and the 2025 lineup have been upgraded to a seamless dual-screen setup consisting of two 10.25-inch fully digital instrument clusters and a central infotainment display. It features the built-in MBUX intelligent human-machine interaction system, which supports OTA updates and voice interaction. The 2025 model’s infotainment system adds continuous voice recognition and an app store. Interior features include 64-color ambient lighting, sport seats, a panoramic sunroof, and the Burmester sound system, with a head-up display (HUD) available as an option.
Powertrain
The Mercedes Benz GLA offers a variety of gasoline engines, including the M282 series 1.3T four-cylinder turbocharged engine (co-developed with Renault, featuring ultra-thin cylinder wall coating, cylinder deactivation technology, and direct injection), available in high- and low-power variants; the M260 series 2.0T engine; and the M139 2.0T engine for AMG models. Some models are equipped with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, and all powertrains are paired with a 7-speed or 8-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.
