Exterior
Stupid question first, and I promise it is not stupid. Who is going to walk into your showroom and buy this car? Answer that and the rest of the Xiaomi SU7 gets easier. Not the acceleration. Not the screen. The buyer. Here is what makes this model odd, and commercially interesting. In markets where Xiaomi phones are already in everyone’s pocket, your customer arrives with an opinion about this car before you have opened the door for them. Rare. Most new Chinese nameplates land on a blank sheet and you spend the first year explaining who they are. That recognition is worth money. It is also narrower than it looks, and I will come back to why.
So, size. Nose to tail, 4,997 mm. Across the mirrors, 1,963 mm — and it is the width, not the length, that decides whether your market can live with this car. Width is where I would start. Because 1,963 mm sounds harmless on a spec card and behaves very differently in a car park built for 1,700 mm hatchbacks. Your customers will not measure it. They will feel it, every time they open a door into a neighbouring bay. Height lands between 1,440 and 1,460 mm depending on the variant, over a 3,000 mm wheelbase. Those are large-sedan figures, and the car wears them in traffic — a footprint a class above what the pricing conversation implies.
Styling has had money spent on it, which is what you would expect from a company that has spent a decade selling consumer electronics to people who care how things look. Long bonnet. A roofline that slopes back into an active rear spoiler on the quicker version. Flush door handles. Read it as one design rather than a pile of borrowed cues, and you are reading it correctly. That coherence is rarer in this segment than it should be. Two practical notes for a showroom, and both of them cost you money if you skip them.
The first is the roofline. On the flagship, where the roof sits at 1,440 mm, entry and exit take more care than in a crossover, and your older customers will notice every single time. The second is ground clearance, which was set by a sports-sedan brief rather than a bad-road brief. If your market runs on broken surfaces and speed tables, that detail matters. Put a car on local roads before you commit. Honestly, a photograph will not settle this question for you. I’ll be blunt about one more thing. The Xiaomi SU7 is a driver’s car in the way a large electric sedan can be, it looks quick standing still, and it does not look anonymous — which is exactly the sort of car that holds value on your forecourt. But “driver’s car” is a narrow promise. Some markets buy it. Some walk past it to a crossover.
Interior
Get in and the impression is not chauffeur-forward. It is product-forward, which is a different thing. Xiaomi built this cabin around its software ecosystem, and here is the fork in the road for you. If your customers already live inside that ecosystem, the appeal is immediate and you barely have to sell it. If they don’t — and in a lot of markets they won’t — you are still left with a well-laid-out interior, a large central display, a slim instrument panel ahead of the driver, and a head-up display on the higher trims.
Because the layout is screen-led, the perceived quality of the whole car rides on that panel. Bright. Responsive. Menus you can work without a manual. It feels like one product rather than a committee output, and I don’t say that about many Chinese cabins. Materials hold up at the money. Soft-touch where hands land, proper seats with real side support for a car this quick, and a rear bench that takes adults.
On that 3,000 mm wheelbase, rear legroom is not something you apologise for. It is a genuine strength, and worth putting a tall colleague in the back before you write any brochure copy. Three across the back is a short-trip proposition. Normal for the class, and worth saying out loud to customers rather than letting them discover it. The roof glass is a talking point. Big, airy, and in a hot market you will demonstrate the shading constantly. Make sure your sales staff know how it works, because they will be asked five times a day.
Where I push back hardest is the marketing you are handed. The Xiaomi SU7 carries an ambitious assistance stack, and outside China its availability is a regulatory question rather than a product question. Do not lead with it. Lead with the range, the footprint and the way it drives. I have watched importers promise capability they could not legally switch on, and the refunds arrive long before the goodwill does.
Powertrain and Chassis
Two configurations, and they are honestly two different cars wearing one badge. Start with the one your order book will actually want. A single motor, 220 kW. In the figures your customers read, that is 299 PS. Brisk rather than savage, which is the correct brief for a family four-door. This is the volume car, and for most of your buyers it is the sensible one: 700 km of CLTC range on the entry specification, torque from a standstill, running costs a fleet manager can live with.
Then the one the press wrote about. Two motors, 495 to 508 kW depending on version, 673 to 690 PS, all-wheel drive, and a 0-100 km/h time quoted from 2.78 seconds. Supercar numbers in a four-door body, and genuinely more than the chassis will ever need on a public road. Plan for the mismatch now, not after launch. Your enquiries will skew heavily towards the quick one. Your orders will skew the other way, because the quick one carries a premium and most buyers, when they are standing in front of the car with a finance quote in hand, choose the range.
Range itself spans 700 to 902 km on CLTC, and here is the part that decides whether you keep your reputation. CLTC is generous next to WLTP, and noticeably generous next to a real mixed run. So quote your customers roughly what they will see on WLTP and let the good news arrive as a surprise rather than the other way round. That is how repeat business is built. It is also how you avoid spending two years explaining a number.
Chassis work is serious, and it needed to be. Double wishbones at the front, a multi-link rear, and a body stiff enough to make the dual-motor car’s power usable rather than theatrical. Over broken surfaces the ride sits on the firm side of comfortable — I would argue that is the right call for something with this much thrust, and if your market prizes a plush secondary ride, spec the smaller wheels. You give up a little looks and you get back compliance.
Charging depends on the pack fitted. The long-range versions use a high-voltage architecture that cuts peak stop times considerably. Ask us for the exact curve for the trim you are ordering, because the real numbers vary more than the headline figures suggest.
FAQ
So what does the Xiaomi SU7 actually do on range, in the real world? Less than the sticker. Always less than the sticker. 700 to 902 km is the CLTC figure, and CLTC flatters range next to WLTP, which in turn flatters it next to a cold motorway run with the heater on and four people aboard. Build your customer conversation on the middle number, not the big one, and you will spend far less time on the phone in year two.
Can I import the Xiaomi SU7 into my country? Yes, and it is the work we do every week — though I will not pretend the path is the same everywhere. Type approval or homologation comes first, then charging connector and grid compatibility, battery transport rules, and local registration. Some of the assistance functions will not be certified for use outside China, and you should plan around that rather than promise around it. Budget months, not weeks, if your market requires full type approval.
How does this stack up against the premium electric sedans my customers already know? Badly on badge. Well on almost everything else. On footprint, on pace and on standard equipment the Xiaomi SU7 meets them, and on what your customer pays it usually undercuts them. Brand recognition is the gap, and in most markets it is a real one — for now. Sell the car on what it does and let the badge catch up on its own.
What should I be budgeting for beyond the car itself? Everything that is not the car, and it is more than most first-time importers expect. Duty, VAT or its local equivalent, freight, insurance, homologation testing, any modifications your regulator demands — lighting and connectors are the usual ones — and port handling. Then stock the back end of the business: spare parts, and technician training. This is a screen-heavy car with an advanced assistance stack, so diagnostic access and software support belong in the budget from day one, not in a contingency line you hope never to touch.
How do we start working with you on supply? Send your company profile, your target market, the trims you want and a realistic first-year volume. If you already know where you stand on homologation in your country, tell us — it shortens everything downstream. We come back with availability, production and shipping lead times, and a formal quotation covering the vehicle and the export documentation. Most partners we supply run a pilot batch before they scale, for the obvious reason that a container load is a poor place to discover what your market actually wants.
