GAC Aion rolled the i60 out in China in November 2025, and it’s been a quiet hit — a compact five-seat SUV you can get as a pure EV or with a range-extender. Think of it as the smaller, sensible sibling of the AION V: same 2,775 mm wheelbase, a touch more length, none of the attitude. It’s built for daily family use, not for showing off.

Exterior

Up front it wears a closed-off face with a full-width light bar, the look EV buyers expect now. The headlights sweep up at the corners, and a slim AION wordmark sits just above. Six single colours are on the table — Warm Gold, Galaxy Blue, Polar White, Sea Grey, Holographic Silver, Shadow Black — plus a couple of two-tone paints if plain paint bores you.

The side is fairly square, with matte-black arches, semi-hidden handles, and roof rails. One small giveaway: the charge port sits on the right front wing for the EV, on the left rear for the range-extender. At the back, a layered through-style tail light runs the full width and the badge lights up — “AION” on the EV, the GAC emblem on the REEV — with 18-inch wheels as standard and 19s if you want the sportier stance.

Interior

Step inside and it’s calm, almost understated. A 14.6-inch floating screen does most of the work, sitting next to an 8.9-inch driver cluster on GAC’s ADiGO system. A roller wheel and a column shifter keep the console clean, leaving room for two 50 W wireless pads up front. Cabin colours are limited to three — Oat Milk White, Warm Brown, Tahiti Grey — and there’s 32-colour ambient light to play with.

Rear seats recline to 137 degrees, which actually helps on a long drive, and the floor is flat because it’s front-drive only. Boot space is 416 L, opening to 967 L with the bench folded. No frunk, but there’s 6 kW V2L if you camp or tailgate. Climb the range and you get vented, heated, even massaging front seats, plus a panoramic roof that comes with its own shade.

Powertrain and Chassis

This is the bit that makes the i60 worth a look, and you’ve got two ways to go. Go full electric and you get a 150 or 165 kW motor with a battery between about 48 and 75 kWh — enough for 400, 530, or 650 km depending on what you pick. The other route is the range-extender: a 1.5 L petrol engine that just makes power for the battery, never drives the wheels, paired with a 180 kW motor and a 29.2 kWh pack. On electric alone that’s 210 km, and with a full tank you’re looking at around 1,240 km before you need to stop.

Charging is quick either way — roughly 15 minutes to go from 30 to 80 percent. The bones underneath are honest: MacPherson at the front, a five-link rear, about 160 mm of ground clearance, front-wheel drive. The nicer trims add GAC’s GSD kit for highway assist and smart parking.

FAQ

Is the AION i60 a full EV, or does it have a range extender? Either way you like. It’s sold as a pure electric (BEV) or as a range-extender (REEV). On the REEV, the petrol engine is only there to make electricity while you drive — it doesn’t turn the wheels, the motor does. That sets it apart from a plug-in hybrid, where the engine can drive the car itself. City driving on the cheap? BEV. Long trips without hunting for chargers? REEV.

How far does it go, and how long to charge? The EV does 530 or 650 km CLTC (a 400 km base version exists too). The REEV runs 210 km electric, then roughly 1,240 km total on a full tank. Either way, 30–80% is about 15 minutes on a fast charger.

How big is it, and does it really seat five? Five seats, five doors. It’s 4,685 mm long with a 2,775 mm wheelbase — compact on the outside, but the flat floor and reclining rear bench make the back roomy for adults. Boot is 416 L, 967 L with the seats down.

Can the AION i60 be imported to my country? If your market has no import certification rule, it can go in directly.
