Geely’s Galaxy M9 is the big one in the Galaxy line — a full-size, six-seat SUV that went on sale in China in September 2025 and got its global debut in Milan a month earlier, which tells you where Geely thinks it belongs. The Geely Galaxy M9 is a plug-in hybrid through and through, built on the NordThor EM-P system, and the headline number is the range: over 1,500 km on a full tank and charge. That alone is what a dealer’s customer asks about first, and the rest of the car is built to justify the price bracket without ever quite landing in it.

This is not a rebadged something else — it’s a clean-sheet Geely flagship, though the badge does read “Geely Galaxy” rather than plain Geely, and in a few export papers you’ll see it printed as the Galaxy M9 under the Galaxy sub-brand. Same car, same parts, same specs; only the lettering on the tailgate and the local certification sheet change as it crosses borders.

Exterior

Long and low for something this tall — 5,205 mm nose to tail, 1,999 wide, 1,800 tall on a 3,030 mm wheelbase, so it sits right at the line where a three-row SUV stops looking like a people-carrier and starts looking like a statement. The front is closed off apart from a “Starwave Ripple” light strip that runs the full width with a few hundred LEDs in it, and below that a trapezoidal active grille that opens and shuts on its own to chase drag, which Geely quotes at 0.285 Cd — not a headline figure, but it’s the reason the thing is quiet at speed.

Round the sides there are old-school pull-out door handles rather than the flush type, which is the detail I’d actually point out to a customer who’s lived through a northern winter; they work with gloves, with ice, with no thinking about it. The roofline stays flat, the windows run nearly 1:1.2 against the body, and the C-pillar goes black to fake a floating roof. Wheels are 21-inch multi-spokes on the upper trims, and the rear gets “Rising Sun” taillights that spread out from the centre — you’ll know it from behind at a glance, which matters more than designers admit.

Interior

Calmer in here than the shell outside would have you expect. That 30-inch 6K panoramic screen floats across the dash with a 12.66-inch cluster tucked behind the wheel and a 32-inch AR head-up display throwing arrows onto the glass, Qualcomm 8295P does the processing so nothing lags, Flyme Auto 2 runs the cabin, and — the bit I’d actually point out — a voice assistant called Eva handles the everyday stuff without you digging into menus. Try asking it to cool the second row and you’ll see why that counts on a hot day with kids in the back.

Six seats in a 2+2+2 layout, so two captain’s chairs in the middle on their own rails, each with ventilation, heating and a ten-point massage, and a 17.3-inch ceiling screen for the second row to argue over. Third row isn’t the usual punishment seat — it reclines to 150 degrees and there’s real headroom, though tall adults will still want the middle for a long run. The Geely Galaxy M9 folds the second and third rows close to flat and opens the boot from 328 litres up to 2,171, which is honestly fine for what this is; it swallows a week’s luggage for six and still closes. A 9.1-litre fridge sits between the rows, three-zone climate is standard, and the 27-speaker Flyme Sound system is the sort you demonstrate rather than describe.

Powertrain and Chassis

Plug-in hybrid, not a range extender with a generator doing all the work — though it can run in range-extender mode when the battery’s low and the engine’s just charging, so the line blurs. At the heart is the NordThor EM-P system: a 1.5T four-cylinder rated 120 kW, plus electric motors. Front-drive cars use a P1+P3 pair for 300 kW combined and 4.8 L/100 km depleted; step up to the triple-motor all-wheel-drive and you get 640 kW, or 858 PS, and 1,165 Nm, which is the version that does 0–100 in 4.5 seconds — quick enough that customers laugh the first time they floor it.

Battery comes two ways: an 18.4 kWh pack for around 100 km CLTC electric, or a 41.5 kWh for 210 to 230 km, and that’s the number to quote because most buyers never visit a petrol station on a normal week. Total range lands at 1,505 km with both full, DC peaks at 135 kW so 30 to 80% eats about fifteen minutes, and AC is the usual 6.6 kW you’d plug in overnight.

Underneath there are double-wishbone arms up front and a multi-link rear, tuned by Lotus — which shows up in how flat it stays through a bend for something standing this tall — and CCD damping is standard with air suspension as an option for the buyers who want the magic-carpet feel. Nine airbags, over 70% high-strength steel, and the G-Pilot H system with a roof LiDAR, eleven cameras and three radars handles highway NOA, auto parking and emergency braking to 130 km/h. That’s genuine Level 2-plus, not a brochure claim.

Is the Geely Galaxy M9 a range extender or a plug-in hybrid? Plug-in hybrid — an EM-P, so it has a 1.5T engine and electric motors driving the wheels, and it can switch between pure electric, hybrid and range-extender modes as the battery and road demand. The engine drives the car directly when needed, it isn’t only a generator, which is the difference from a pure REEV like the Li Auto L9.
