Exterior
The Leapmotor D99 is a big machine. 5,280 mm long, 1,995 mm wide, 1,900 mm tall, on a 3,110 mm wheelbase. That’s full-size MPV territory, and in this segment size is not a styling choice — it’s the product.
Two things jump out. First, the 3,110 mm wheelbase, which is what actually determines how much usable cabin you get. Second, that 1,995 mm width, which is 5 mm short of two metres. Think about that in the context of your customers’ parking. In many markets a two-metre-wide vehicle simply will not fit a standard space comfortably, and will not fit some older multi-storey car parks at all. This is not a cosmetic concern. Check bay dimensions in your market before you order, and check door-opening clearance in the sort of car parks your buyers actually use.
The 1,900 mm height is worth noting for a different reason. It’s tall, which is good for cabin space and for the ease of getting children and older passengers in and out, and it’s high enough that some covered car parks and residential garage entries will be tight. Again, a practical issue, not a styling one.
It’s a new model, arriving in August 2026, and it shares the D platform with the D19. That’s genuinely useful information for a dealer, because it means the underlying architecture and much of the supply chain are not a one-off. It does not mean the D99 is a proven quantity. It isn’t yet. The design itself is what you’d expect from a 2026 flagship MPV — a large, confident grille-less face, a strong shoulder line and a shape that prioritises interior volume over dramatic surfacing. It will look substantial on a forecourt. Whether it looks expensive is a matter of taste, and honestly, at this scale, presence matters more than elegance. It has presence.
Interior
On the Leapmotor D99, this is where an MPV lives or dies, and the 3,110 mm wheelbase gives the Leapmotor D99 the foundation to compete with the established names. Expect a proper three-row layout with generous second-row accommodation. In this class, buyers are often comparing against well-known Japanese and Korean MPVs with decades of refinement behind them, and that is the honest benchmark, not the badge on the front. Second row is where the purchase decision gets made, and it needs to be genuinely comfortable, not merely roomy.
Third row is the usual question. In a vehicle this size it will be usable for adults on real journeys, which is the standard this class now sets. Fold the third row and you get serious load volume. For hotel shuttle operators, airport transfer businesses and family buyers, that flexibility is the core proposition.
The caveat I’d raise, and I’d raise it with any new MPV: seat comfort and material quality are things you cannot judge from a specification sheet. Neither can I. Before you commit to volume on the D99, insist on a physical evaluation. Sit in the second row for an hour. Check the third row with three adults. Look at how the seats fold and whether the mechanism feels durable — because in a shuttle fleet, seat mechanisms take a beating that private buyers never subject them to.
The tech story will be strong. Leapmotor’s newer models have screen-heavy interiors with a good deal of connected functionality, and a 2026 flagship will follow that pattern. The practical question is localisation: language support, app availability and connected services all differ by market. Get written confirmation of what’s active on your build. Don’t assume.
Powertrain and Chassis
Two versions, and the choice between them is the most important decision you’ll make on the Leapmotor D99. The BEV version runs dual motors producing 410 kW — 558 hp — with a 115 kWh battery, giving 700 km CLTC and 0-100 km/h in roughly 5.4 seconds. In a vehicle this size, that’s a lot of performance, and 115 kWh is a large pack. It positions the D99 as a long-distance electric MPV, which is a genuinely useful thing to be: hotel shuttles, airport runs and executive transfer work are predictable, high-mileage duty cycles where running cost per kilometre is the whole argument.
The REEV version uses a 1.5T generator producing 136 hp that feeds a battery rather than driving the wheels, paired with dual motors totalling 300 kW — 408 hp — and an 80.3 kWh battery. Electric-only range is 480 km, and 0-100 km/h takes 6.3 seconds.
Here’s the part I’d want every dealer to be clear on. The REEV version has 480 km of electric range and then a petrol generator to extend it. For a shuttle fleet with a predictable daily route, that 480 km may cover the entire day, which means the REEV behaves as a pure electric vehicle in normal use and the generator sits as insurance. For a long-distance operator who exceeds it regularly, the petrol engine runs, and you should expect fuel consumption in that mode to be unimpressive. That’s the physical reality of a large, heavy vehicle generating its own electricity. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Present the REEV as electric-first with a range extender, because that is what it is.
Charging the 115 kWh BEV pack will need serious DC infrastructure to be practical at scale. Check what your market can supply, and think about your customer’s overnight charging situation. For a fleet operator, a battery this size means either a lot of home or depot charging or a lot of reliance on public fast charging. That’s a commercial planning issue, not a technical footnote.
The Leapmotor D99 chassis will be comfort-oriented, as it must be in this class. Independent suspension, a focus on ride quality in the second row above all. Don’t market the D99 on driving dynamics. Nobody buying a large MPV is shopping for that. One more point, and it’s the one I’d put at the top of your risk assessment. This is a 2026 model. Spec, timing and availability are all subject to change, and the export programme for a new flagship typically takes time to bed in. Treat the D99 as a planning conversation for next year, not an order you place today. That’s not caution for its own sake. It’s how the calendar actually works.
FAQ
What is the difference between the BEV and REEV versions of the Leapmotor D99? The BEV version uses dual motors at 410 kW with a 115 kWh battery for 700 km CLTC. The REEV version uses dual motors at 300 kW with an 80.3 kWh battery giving 480 km of electric range, plus a 1.5T petrol generator that extends total range. Both are three-row large MPVs on the same 3,110 mm wheelbase. Which you stock depends on your customers’ daily distances and charging access. For predictable short-haul fleet duty the REEV often works as a pure EV in practice. For long-distance and heavy-mileage operations with good charging, the BEV is the cleaner proposition.
When will the Leapmotor D99 be available for export? The model arrives in August 2026 on Leapmotor’s D platform, shared with the D19. Export timelines for a new flagship typically run behind the domestic launch, and homologation in your market takes additional time. We’d rather talk to you now about your requirements and target volume than promise you a date we don’t control. Give us your market and expected first-year volume and we’ll come back with a realistic assessment of timing rather than a number designed to sound encouraging.
Is the Leapmotor D99 suitable for fleet and shuttle operations? Potentially, and it’s one of the strongest arguments for the vehicle. The 3,110 mm wheelbase and three rows suit airport transfer, hotel shuttle and executive transport work, and predictable daily duty cycles suit electric operation well. Two things need checking before you commit. First, charging: a 115 kWh BEV pack needs substantial depot charging capacity for fleet use, so plan the infrastructure alongside the vehicles. Second, seat and door mechanism durability, because shuttle use is much harder on these than private ownership. Insist on physical evaluation before volume commitment.
How do I import the Leapmotor D99 to my country? Send us your destination and expected volume and we’ll map the route. For a new model the sequence matters: homologation or type approval first, then high-voltage battery transport and safety requirements, charging connector and grid compatibility, and local registration. The REEV version additionally requires approval of the petrol powertrain and emissions systems, which can extend the process. We prepare the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and conformity documents, and can arrange third-party inspection where your authority requires it. Given the D99’s timing, early conversation is genuinely useful.
How do you supply the Leapmotor D99 and how do we start working together? We’re a Chinese export company, so supply runs directly from us to you. Container or RoRo, depending on whether you’re importing a demonstration unit or a full allocation. We handle factory allocation, pre-shipment inspection, export documentation and loading, and we keep you updated through production and the voyage. To start, send your company profile, target market, which powertrain you want and your first-year volume. You’ll get availability, lead times and a formal quotation back. For a model launching in 2026, that first exchange is the sensible way to position yourself before ordering opens.
