Exterior
Large four-door sedans are a hard shape to get right, and most Chinese attempts in the past decade ended up looking like someone stretched a compact and hoped nobody noticed. The BYD Seal 08 DM doesn’t do that. It’s 5,150 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, 1,505 mm tall, on a 3,030 mm wheelbase. Nearly two metres of width gives it a genuinely planted stance, and the roofline falls away towards the rear in a way that reads more European than local.
I’d flag one thing, though, and it’s not a criticism so much as a heads-up for your showroom staff. That width is wonderful on the road and occasionally annoying in an underground car park built for smaller cars. In some export markets, parking-bay widths are a real consideration, and a two-metre car will get noticed. Demo it in your actual environment before you commit to a volume.
Design details are restrained. Flush handles, a closed-off nose treatment, and light signatures that are sharp without being aggressive. It looks expensive in a way that doesn’t rely on chrome. For a sedan aimed at executives and livery buyers, that restraint is probably the right call — it ages better than drama, and it is exactly the kind of understatement where the BYD Seal 08 DM reads as a serious car rather than a showpiece.
Interior
The cabin follows BYD’s current thinking, which is screen-led, clean and slightly minimalist. Materials are well judged for the class, with soft coverings across the top surfaces and a rear bench that genuinely seats three. Rear legroom is the headline deliverable for a car this long, and that’s where the livery and chauffeur market will be looking.
Two things I’d point out from experience. First, the electric range is large enough that most customers will drive electric-only for weeks at a time and only touch the engine on a long trip, so the cabin needs to be quiet in EV mode rather than merely acceptable. It is. Second, if you’re selling into a hot climate, rear ventilation and the tinting package matter more than any screen size, and I’d spec them wherever the factory allows.
Boot space is decent for a PHEV sedan, though the battery takes its cut compared with a pure petrol car. That’s normal for the class and worth stating plainly in your spec sheets — the BYD Seal 08 DM competes on range and presence, not on luggage volume.
Powertrain and Chassis
This is where the BYD Seal 08 DM earns its place in your line-up, and the numbers are unusually strong. It’s a plug-in hybrid — PHEV, not REEV; the engine here can drive the wheels, unlike a range extender — built around a 1.5-litre turbo engine making 115 kW, paired with an E-CVT.
Front-wheel drive versions use a 200 kW motor. The all-wheel-drive version adds a motor to the other axle, for 400 kW combined, or 544 hp. That’s enough to move a 5.1-metre sedan from a standstill to 100 km/h in as little as 3.8 seconds in the quickest configuration. Across the range, that figure lands between 3.8 and 6.8 seconds depending on which one you order.
Electric-only range is 350 to 400 km on CLTC, and combined range reaches 1,660 km. For a sedan, that combination is the argument you’ll use over and over: a customer can commute on electricity all week and still drive cross-country without planning a charge. That’s the core promise of the BYD Seal 08 DM. Unlike the M8 approach, this is one powertrain, not two products.
Chassis hardware is double-wishbone front and multi-link rear in principle, with the usual ride-and-handling tuning a sedan of this class needs. Ask us for the exact damper and brake specification per trim so your listings don’t blur the versions together.
FAQ
How is the Seal 08 DM different from a range-extender car? It’s a plug-in hybrid, so the 1.5T engine can drive the wheels directly, typically alongside the electric motors at higher speeds where that’s more efficient. A REEV, by contrast, uses its engine only as a generator. The practical difference for your customers: the PHEV works well across the whole speed range and tows and cruises with the engine assisting, while a REEV behaves like an EV with a mobile power station aboard. Both are valid; they suit different buyers. Make sure your sales team can explain that in one sentence, because customers ask.
Is 350-400 km of electric range realistic in daily use? On the CLTC cycle that’s the claimed figure, and CLTC is generous compared with typical real-world driving. Expect less in cold weather, less with air conditioning running hard, and less on the motorway. Even so, this is more electric range than most PHEV sedans offer, which means a great many customers will genuinely use it as an EV for the working week. That’s the point worth selling, and it’s honest.
What maintenance should a distributor plan for? A PHEV sedan needs both an engine service schedule and attention to the high-voltage system, so your workshop needs the training and the tooling for both. Oil, filters and the usual consumables still apply because the engine still runs. We provide service documentation, parts lists and diagnostic access, and we can arrange technical training with the factory if you’re taking meaningful volume. Budget for that before launch, not after.
How do I import the BYD Seal 08 DM to my country? Give us your destination and we’ll work through it properly. Type approval or homologation comes first, then charging-standard compatibility, then local requirements on emissions and on battery handling. On the import side we issue the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and conformity documents, and can supply third-party inspection reports if your authority asks. Because this is a PHEV, most markets treat it under the same rules as an engine car for customs purposes, which usually simplifies classification compared with a pure EV.
How do you supply the Seal 08 DM and how do we begin? We’re a Chinese export company and we supply you directly, so there’s no middle layer. Container or RoRo, whichever your port and volume favour; for sedans, four to six units per container is typical depending on how they’re loaded. We handle factory allocation, pre-shipment inspection, export documentation and stevedoring, and we keep you posted through build and transit. To move forward, send your company details, your target market, the trims you’re interested in and your first-year volume estimate. We’ll come back with availability, lead time and a formal quote.
