Chery unveiled it in Dubai in August 2025, then at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China that November, with a global on-sale date in early 2026. It sits at the top of iCAR’s V range, and the brief was always the same: look the part as a rugged off-roader, but drive like a sensible EV day to day.
Exterior
It’s a square, upright SUV. Round LED lights sit inside square housings, the bumper is thick, and the grille mixes body-colour panels with black trim. The shape leans hard on old Land Rover cues, and that’s on purpose. Wide wheel arches, fixed side steps, and roof rails are part of the body, not add-ons. The rails will hold a roof tent.
The tailgate opens to the side. You pick either a full-size spare on the door or a smaller “backpack” box, and that also changes the length: 5,055 mm with the tyre, 4,909 mm without. Eight front parts swap to different colours if you want a custom face. On dimensions, the 2,910 mm wheelbase does the heavy lifting on cabin space, and the body itself is 1,976 mm wide, up to 1,894 mm tall.
Interior
Calmer than the outside. Flat wide dash, a floating 15.4-inch screen, digital cluster, and a Qualcomm 8295 chip so it doesn’t lag. They kept real buttons for the climate, which matters on a car people take off-road. The headline feature is the twin panoramic roof with a floating “sky island” panel and ambient light. The glass blocks 99.9% of UV, so no fried passengers on summer runs.
The driver gets a high “commander” seat, six-way adjust, heat and vent. Inside headroom is 1,357 mm and iCAR quotes a 69.9% space-use ratio, so it feels bigger than it measures. Around 50 small storage spots. Inside, the trim is black-and-brown unless you change it, and there’s a 23-speaker 7.1.4 system you can add if you care about sound.
Powertrain and Chassis
This is the part that separates it from old boxy SUVs. It’s a range extender. The 1.5T engine, Chery’s so-called Golden Range Extender, makes about 115 kW and runs at 45.79% thermal efficiency. It charges the battery rather than turning the wheels. On economy it’s genuinely strong: the engine puts out about 3.71 kWh per litre of fuel, and in range-extender mode WLTC sits near 1.33 L/100 km.
There are two LFP pack sizes, 20.6 or 34.3 kWh. Running on battery only it’ll do 90 to 150 km depending on which you pick, and with tank and battery both full the total clears 1,000 km, past 1,200 km on the larger pack. For a shape this blunt, that finally ends the “boxy SUV equals thirsty” problem.
You can have rear-wheel drive with one motor, or dual-motor 4WD. The 4WD makes about 335 kW, near 455 hp, and does 0–100 in under 5 seconds. Underneath: MacPherson front, multi-link rear, 220 mm clearance, 23-degree approach angle. Adaptive damping (Chery’s “magic carpet”) tightens on road, loosens off it. The 4WD and chassis were signed off by an outside racing team, so it drives better than it looks.
Top trims get a Horizon Robotics Journey 6P chip with lidar, running the “Falcon 700” suite (city and highway NOA, parking, transparent chassis). Lower trims use the camera-based “Falcon 500.” The body is a cage with 76% high-strength steel, built for China-Europe dual five-star.
FAQ
Is the iCAR V27 a full electric car? No. It’s a range-extended EV. Motors drive the wheels; the 1.5T engine just charges the battery while moving. Plug in for daily electric driving, use the engine for long trips with no charging stop.
What’s the real range? 90 to 150 km electric, depending on battery. With the engine as generator, over 1,000 km total, past 1,200 km on the 34.3 kWh pack.
iCAR V27 or iCAUR V27: what’s the difference? Same car. iCAUR is the name for overseas markets, iCAR is the domestic brand. Specs and trim are unchanged.
Can the iCAR V27 be imported to my country? If your market has no import certification rule, it can go in directly. A few regions do require type approval (the EU is the common one): then we need to confirm this model can be supplied with the certification your market asks for.
