Chery’s off-road sub-brand Zongheng has been busy, and the F700 is the one that should make pickup buyers sit up. It’s a full-size, plug-in hybrid bakkie built on a ladder frame, with the sort of power and wading ability you’d normally expect from something far more expensive. Sales opened in China in August 2026, and the export drumbeat has already started — South Africa gets it in 2027 under the Jetour P5 name, with other left-hand-drive markets due later. What you’re looking at is a proper workhorse that also happens to be quick.
Exterior
Square, tall, and not shy about it. The front end carries the same rectangular LED daytime running lights and grille treatment as the G700 SUV, but the bumper and the “LSER” emblem on the grille are unique to this truck. Dimensions are honest about the size: 5,495 mm of length on a 3,350 mm wheelbase, so it reads big even when parked, and the wheel arches are flared with rivets that actually look like they belong there. Around the back you get a full-width tail-light bar, a black protective panel on the tailgate, and a step built into the rear bumper — a small thing, but you’ll use it every time you load the bed. The cargo box itself gives around 1,300 litres, with tie-down points and a trailer power outlet rated for 3.5 tonnes of towing capacity.
Interior
Inside, the Jetour Zongheng F700 borrows the G700’s cabin layout, and that’s no bad thing. A 35.4-inch “Horizon” screen runs the width of the dash, with a 15.6-inch floating touchscreen sitting below it, and a Snapdragon 8255 chip keeps Zongheng OS moving. The bit I’d point out to a customer is that Jetour kept real physical buttons for the climate and drive modes — try adjusting anything on a touchscreen with gloves on and you’ll see why that matters off-road. Seats come in 2+3 five-seat or 2+2 four-seat forms, the fronts massaging, all rows heated and ventilated, and there’s an onboard fridge tucked in. Falcon 500 handles highway assist and the 540-degree camera, which is the feature new buyers actually demo to their friends.
Powertrain and Chassis
This is where the numbers get silly. The Kunpeng CDM-O plug-in hybrid pairs a 2.0T dedicated engine (155 kW, 340 Nm, 45.5% thermal efficiency) with front and rear electric motors, and the combined output lands at 665 kW — about 904 hp — and 1,135 Nm, sent through a two-speed DHT. Zero to 100 km/h takes roughly five seconds, which is absurd for a pickup, and honestly part of the appeal. The battery is a CATL 4C Shenxing unit on an 800V bus, good for 150 km of CLTC electric range and 1,300 km combined; a 20 to 80 percent top-up eats about ten minutes. Underneath it’s body-on-frame with double wishbones up front, three differential locks, XWD-S four-wheel drive, and a wading depth of 900 mm with an IP68 rating. Approach is 32 degrees, departure 15, and it’ll climb 45. Ground clearance can reach 350 mm on the air suspension.
FAQ
Is the Jetour Zongheng F700 a plug-in hybrid or a range extender? A plug-in hybrid, full stop — PHEV, with a 2.0T engine and motors you can charge from the wall. The confusion is fair, because the Zongheng family also sells the G900 as a range extender (REEV), so the two technologies sit side by side in the showroom. If your customer specifically wants a series-hybrid with no plug-to-drive dependency, that’s the G900, not this truck.
How far does it go, and how quickly does it charge? CLTC quotes 150 km on battery alone and 1,300 km with the tank topped up, so most weekly driving stays electric. The 800V architecture is the headline: 20 to 80 percent in around ten minutes on a fast charger, which is quick enough that a trail-day coffee covers most of it.
Why is it called Zongheng F700 in China but Jetour F700 or P5 abroad? Same truck, different badge. At home it wears the Zongheng sub-brand name; internationally Chery trims that to Jetour F700, and South Africa will know it as the Jetour P5. Body, specs and part numbers carry over untouched — only the lettering and the local spec sheet change.
Can the Jetour Zongheng F700 be imported to my country? Where a market has no import certification requirement, it goes straight in.
