The front of the Avatr 07 still has the familiar family-style dynamic running light design, which is highly recognisable and futuristic when driving down the road. The LED light cluster has also been given an even glow.

The rear end is also similar to the Avatr 12, with two elongated segmented taillights, a hidden flat illuminated badge, and the Avatr 07 also has a regular glass rear window.

Looking at the rear of the car from a 45° angle, the Avatr 07 still has the elegant and stretched low-slung sports feel of the Avatr 12 or even the AMG GT50.

At the front of the car, the top-of-the-line Ultra version of the Avatr 07 also has an optional Halo screen, which still offers a choice of multiple light languages. However, the number of light languages remains the same as the previous model, and no new tricks have been seen for the time being.

The Avatr 07 measures 4825 × 1980 × 1620 mm and has a wheelbase of 2940 mm. Compared to the Avatr 11, the model is slightly smaller and similar in size to the Model Y.

Although the height of the Avatr 07 is almost the same as that of the Model Y, when viewed from the side, it basically maintains the design of a traditional SUV, placing the A-pillar behind the front wheel, leaving space for the front cabin. Moreover, the tail does not use a fastback design, but instead retains the space of the trunk, which looks more in line with most users’ intuitive impression of a traditional SUV.

Thanks to the air suspension, the top-of-the-line model is equipped with 21-inch large wheels, while the wheels can also fit perfectly with the wheel arches. This makes the Avatr 07 present a low-slung and calm appearance when parked, which is more pleasing to the eye.

The Avatr 07 also offers the option of a “streaming media rearview mirror” this time, which also supports folding and storing.

The Avatr 07 places the “HUAWEI Inside” logo on the A-pillar on the driver’s side.

Overall, the exterior design of the Avatr 07 still follows the tone set by the brand since 011, maintaining a certain coupe style. The shape constructed with a large number of curves conveys a sense of muscular power. It looks like a vehicle that is parked statically, but in fact, if you look closely, you will feel a sense of motion that is ready to go.

As for the F-shaped daytime running light design on the front face, it is generally becoming more and more eye-catching, but it is still a design that emphasizes subjective design feelings—those who like it will always fall in love at first sight, while those who find it hard to accept will instead find it gaudy.

There is no doubt that it is Avatr’s original design and also the most recognizable part of the brand’s design.

Interior design

Although Avatr has only built three cars so far, it has always insisted on highlighting the sense of “new luxury” in the interior design style.

The first thing that catches the eye is the oval steering wheel, which is within reach, and the far-end screen, which is in the distance and cannot be touched.

The biggest advantage of the oval steering wheel is that it provides the driver with a very wide field of vision, allowing the driver to see the instrument information on the far-end screen up close and the broad road environment in the distance.

In daily driving, the driver is more comfortable with controls within half a meter. The only drawback is that when turning around or parking in a garage, the driver’s significant steering wheel movements may not be picked up, and it takes a long time to get used to it.

The remote screen setting is a highlight of the Avatr cockpit. In addition to the instrument panel in front of the driver, a series of small components extend to the right, which can be used to display the status information of the vehicle. In the settings menu, we can adjust the small components we want to display and customize the order.

The Avatr 07 is equipped with a 15.6-inch 16:9 floating center screen with a resolution of up to 2K, which displays very detailed results. The built-in system is the HarmonyOS 4 Hongmeng cockpit, which supports the interconnection and circulation of the Hongmeng ecosystem, as well as the familiar NFC one-touch transfer function.

The main focus of the listening advice Avatr 07 is the cancellation of the row of buttons below the 12-inch center screen for controlling the main and auxiliary car windows, and these buttons have been returned to the doors.

The atmosphere in the front cockpit is still in line with the “new luxury” style. The NAPPA leather seats are very soft and comfortable, and the rest of the visible and touchable areas are all soft-packed. With the standard seat ventilation/heating/massage, it can indeed be considered a “first class” experience.

More importantly, the front seats, both the driver’s and the passenger’s seats, are equipped with a one-touch “zero gravity seat” function.

Pressing the button on the side of the seat will allow the seat back to be reclined, the seat support to be raised, and the footrest to rise up to support the calves, allowing the occupant to assume a “zero gravity” stretching position. However, this will directly encroach on the rear passenger’s space, so it can only be used when no one is sitting in the back.

The driver can also open the zero-gravity seat to take a nap while the car is parked.

Although the Avatr 07 is relatively cramped in the back considering its size and positioning, there is still quite a bit of legroom for rear passengers after the front seats are set to a normal adult sitting position.

Thanks to the upgraded integrated battery technology, its panoramic glass roof is equipped with a physical electric sunshade, and the rear seats don’t feel very high. The left and right seats provide decent support for the thighs.

The middle seat is a bit higher, and when occupied, it encroaches on the seats on the sides. So in my opinion, the Avatr 07 is more suitable for four people to travel together.

What is worth praising is that the leatherette on the left and right sides of the back row extends from the end of the seat to the armrest, which gives a clean and bright integrated design feel visually, and also provides comfortable support for the occupant’s waist and hands.

The Avatr 07 also has an “armrest screen” on the back armrest, which can be used to turn on the ventilation, heating, and massage functions of the back seats (the back seats only come with ventilation and massage as standard on the top model), as well as control settings such as the sunshade and air conditioning.

The storage space inside the armrest is about the thickness of an iPhone, and inside it hides an 18W USB-C charging port with a ring of indicator lights. This is the only charging port in the back seat. (The front seat provides a 10W USB-A and a 60W USB-C.)

And in the hole in the back of the front seat, Avatr has also reserved a bracket interface. After purchasing an optional accessory, the tablet can be placed in this position. It is expected to be able to link with Huawei’s MatePad series tablets and with the vehicle machine that is also part of the Hongmeng system.

As an open storage box, the slanted opening of its interior can hold four bottles of water, or a pack of toilet paper and a bottle of water. The space is considered average, but the open setting makes it look a bit messy. Users who care about neat storage in the car, like me, should think carefully about what to put in there, which will inadvertently increase the cost of storage.

Another thing to note is that the double-layered quiet glass in the front row is basically standard across the board, but the rear row is not equipped with quiet glass, and the privacy glass in the rear row is only available on the Ultra 4WD.

In terms of audio, the Avatr 07 series is equipped with a British Treasure audio system, with 16 speakers on the Pro version and 25 speakers on the Max and Ultra.

The Avatr 07 has a relatively large trunk opening, and the air suspension configuration can lower the body, making it very convenient to put things in and take them out of the trunk. The interior space is about 500L.

The rear seats also support 4/6 folding, but unfortunately the trunk is not equipped with an electronic control button, so the user needs to open the door manually to fold the seats.

Like most models with manually folding seats, before folding the seats, we also need to slightly adjust the front seats manually, otherwise they will get stuck when folded.

After the rear seats are fully folded down, the complete depth can reach 1.8 meters, with a relatively large loading space. The official should also launch a matching inflatable mattress, which can turn it into a relatively flat “king room”.

Overall, the cabin space of the Avatr 07 basically meets our expectations for this size positioning. The comfort configurations in the cabin are basically concentrated in the front row, especially the zero-gravity seats with equal left and right power and the comfortable configurations such as seat heating, ventilation and massage.

Overall performance

The Avatr 07 is a very important model for Avatr, as it not only offers a pure electric version, but also a range extender version for the first time.

The Avatr 07’s “Kunlun Intelligent Range Extender” is equipped with a 1.5T four-cylinder range extender engine. The engine has a power of 115kW, a thermal efficiency of 44.39%, and a fuel conversion coefficient of 3.63kWh/L.

Most importantly, this range extender power system can run on 92# fuel, which significantly reduces the cost of ownership compared to most range extender engines that require #95 fuel.

In the self-developed Kunlun extended-range HE 1.5T supercharged special engine, Avatr has incorporated electronic oil pump (EOP) technology. The oil pump is driven by an independent motor, which eliminates the traditional pressure relief structure and can build oil pressure with lower power consumption and lower delay, thereby improving the thermal efficiency of the engine and effectively reducing noise.

In order to further reduce the noise caused by the start-stop of the extended-range engine, Kunlun intelligent extended-range has also introduced “shutdown piston active control technology”.

When the engine is turned off, the generator controller is used to control the final position of the crankshaft and adjust the engine pistons to the optimal position, thereby reducing the cylinder pressure when the engine starts, effectively reducing the noise and vibration of the extended-range engine when it starts, and ultimately reducing the perception of engine start/stop by the cabin occupants.

Generally speaking, when the power battery is in a low-power feeding state, the battery’s discharge capacity will significantly decrease, resulting in the vehicle’s acceleration performance being much slower than the nominal zero-to-hundred acceleration performance when fully charged.

For this reason, CATL has prepared a 39kWh “Shengxing Super Hybrid Battery” for the Avatr 07. This battery can provide a peak discharge rate of 9C when fully charged;and even when the battery is at a low charge, it can maintain a peak discharge rate of 7.7C.

Therefore, the zero-to-hundred acceleration time of the Avatr 07 extended-range two-wheel drive with a full/feeder charge is 6.6s/7.3s; and the zero-to-hundred acceleration time of the extended-range four-wheel drive version with a full/feeder charge is 4.9s/5.8s. The acceleration attenuation rate is relatively low in both the fully charged and feeder states.

Compared to the ever-increasing charging speed of pure electric models, the charging speed of extended-range models seems to have stagnated in the past two years. Most of the top-selling extended-range models only support 2C charging, with a peak charging power of about 70kW.

The “Shenxing Super Hybrid Battery” in the Avatr 07 is also on this list, with a peak charging rate of 3C. The official stated that it only takes 15 minutes to charge the battery from 30% to 80%.

When actually plugged in for DC fast charging, the charging power can reach 120kW, which is indeed a significant improvement.

Finally, let’s take a look at the “pure electric” that Avatr is best at. The pure electric version of the Avatr 07, whether it is a two-wheel drive model or a four-wheel drive model, is equipped with an 82.16kWh CATL Shengxing supercharger battery.

Thanks to the 800V high-voltage platform, the official peak charging rate is 4.5C, and the maximum power of DC fast charging can reach 420kW.

A 10-minute charge can go from 30% to 80%, and the range is about 350 kilometers. With Huawei’s liquid-cooled pile (600kW), it takes about 30 minutes to charge the battery from 0% to 100%.

In terms of range, the two-wheel drive model has a range of 650km in the CLTC mode, and the four-wheel drive model has a range of 610km in the CLTC mode. Judging from the fact that we actually drove 300KM in a day, the WLTC range of the four-wheel drive version is about 80% of the CLTC range.
