I’ll be honest — when I first heard about the Jetour T2 I thought it was just another boxy clone jumping on the trend. Then I sat in one and read the specs properly, and it’s got more going on than the square body suggests. Before we even get to the hybrid, there’s real substance here. If you’re a dealer or importer weighing it up, here’s the straight talk.

Exterior

You can’t miss the Jetour T2. It wears that squared-off, almost military look — flat bonnet, big flat panels, spare tyre slung on the back door like the old Land Rovers. Some love that style, some don’t, but it photographs well and it stands out next to a row of soft crossovers.

It’s just shy of 4.8 metres long and sits on a 2,800 mm wheelbase — those dimensions are what give the cabin its room. It also clears the ground by 220 mm and will climb a 28-degree slope and drop off the back at 30, so it handles real tracks rather than just car parks. The wading figure’s 700 mm, and that actually matters if your market gets monsoons.

Interior

This is where it stops feeling like a farming tool. There’s a 15.6-inch screen up front and a 10.25-inch digital dash behind the wheel. The nicer trims heat, cool and even massage the front seats — a bit of a party trick, but buyers enjoy showing it off. Sony handles the sound if you tick that box.

Five people fit comfortably. The flat roof means proper headroom, and the boot’s about 580 litres so a family’s gear goes in without a roof box. There’s a 540-degree camera as well, the sort that sees under the front wheels. Sounds like a gimmick until you’re picking a line through rocks and can’t see the floor.

Powertrain and Chassis

Now the part everyone asks about. You can get petrol — a 1.5T at 135 kW or a 2.0T at 187 kW — but the Jetour T2 PHEV is the one pulling crowds. In the hybrid the 1.5T works with electric motors over a three-speed hybrid gearbox. On the 26.7 kWh battery you’ll do around 100 to 130 km before the engine kicks in; go for the 43.2 kWh pack and that climbs past 160 km. Either way the petrol engine covers the long hauls, so total range is well over 1,000 km and you’re not hunting chargers.

The XWD four-wheel drive is the clever sort. It decides on its own when to send power rearwards, and locks up and vectors torque when the surface turns nasty. Seven modes from Eco to Rock and Mud. For the money, that’s a serious amount of genuine off-road kit.

FAQ

Is the T2 a PHEV or a full electric car? Plug-in hybrid, not a pure EV. The 1.5T runs with the electric motors, so town runs can be battery-only and the motorway just uses the engine. There’s no fully electric version of this one, at least not yet.

What’s the electric range and how fast does it charge? On the 26.7 kWh battery you’re looking at roughly 100 to 129 km of pure electric driving. The bigger 43.2 kWh pack takes that past 160 km. A fast charger fills it from 30 to 80 percent in about half an hour, so it’s a coffee-break top-up.

How big is the T2, and how many seats? Five seats, five doors. Length is 4,785 mm and it’s about 2,006 mm across; height’s 1,880 mm and the wheelbase sits at 2,800 mm. China also sells a longer seven-seat Traveller, but the version we export is the five-seat body.

Can the T2 be imported to my country? In a lot of places, yes — it’s already on sale across the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia. The EU and a few others will want type approval or homologation sorted first, so tell us where you’re shipping and we’ll confirm what’s needed.
